Left - Harold Hadeen captured our attention as he spoke about the origins of the peaceful Swedish Cemetery of Fairfield
Touring the Phillips County Cemeteriesoffered people an opportunity to experience the lesser known prairie cemeteries in the county. The group visited Pleasant Valley, Dunkard, Amherst, Holyoke, Jarvis, Posegate, Paoli, Fairfield and Haxtun cemeteries. Thank you to the people who shared information about the cemeteries - Charley Triplette, Harold and Vickie Hadeen, Gordon Leben, Jay Dean Krueger, Tillie Fisbeck and Marjorie Kain. Thank you to Larry Poos who shared information about Dunkard and gave us a demonstration on how to locate graves using divining rods.
Above - Several tourists came across this unusual headstone in the Haxtun Cemetery.
Left - Many comments were made on how nice many of the older headstones still look in the prairie cemeteries. Only rain water touches those headstones.
